Long Beach Commission Appointments
By George Economides - Publisher
November 20, 2013 – On a 6-3 vote last night, Long Beach City Councilmembers granted Mayor Bob Foster’s request that Harbor Commission President Thomas Fields be removed from office.
Foster outlined a series of reasons for removal, citing that he has “lost confidence” in Fields
Fields addressed the city council prior to the vote, asking them to wait until the city auditor had completed an audit on port-related travel. Numerous speakers, including two former councilmembers, Rae Gabelich and Tonia Reyes Uranga, testified in support of Fields. He also had the backing of the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association and one major port tenant.
On the vote, Fields received the backing of Councilmembers Gerrie Schipske, Al Austin and Steve Neal.
