September 25, 2012 – Long Beach Memorial Medical Center hosted a ceremony September 14 commemorating the placement of the final piece of structural steel for the new, $31 million MemorialCare Todd Cancer Pavilion. Before construction workers hoisted it into place, a group of cancer survivors, current patients, hospital staff, physicians and members of the community were all invited to sign the building’s final piece and be a part of the pavilion’s history. The dedicated cancer facility, expected to open January 2013, will house various cancer treatment and prevention programs, including support services through the existing Todd Cancer Institute program. Cancer survivor Susie Garrison, left, autographs the building’s final piece of structural steel with Long Beach Memorial’s Todd Cancer Institute Executive Director Cathy Kopy before the piece is raised into place atop the new 64,000-square-foot pavilion.
