February 26 –Husband and wife team Jodine and Jay West (pictured above) grew Fine Feathers Kombucha out of their home kitchen in Portland, Oregon, to a small company in Long Beach. Fine Feathers Kombucha offers its raw, probiotic and enzyme-rich fermented tea drinks in various flavors “for the health-conscious.” The organic kombucha comes in original, grapefruit, carrot, ginger, lemon-cayenne, kiwi-lime, apple-ginger and Kombuffee (kombucha made with organic coffee from local company Lord Windsor Roasters). Twelve ounce bottles are $4 each; growlers (64 ounces) are $18. Bottles may be purchased as a six-pack or box of 24. Fine Feathers offers a growler bottle exchange program; for every growler returned, customers get $3 off their next growler purchase. In addition to being sold at various retail locations listed online, Fine Feathers Kombucha orders made online are delivered by bicycle. According to the Fine Feathers website, finefeatherskombucha.com, “Each batch is made locally with love, organic ingredients, and with sustainable practices. This is reflected in every handcrafted bottle.” For more information, e-mail info@finefeatherskombucha.com or call 562/283-8412. (Photograph by the Business Journal’s Thomas McConville)
