Sweet Threads Long Beach

August 13, 2013 – With both working full-time jobs, Shella Garcia, pictured, and her friend Analie Nguyen launched Sweet Threads as an online business in April 2012 to sell new and vintage children’s items. In September 2012 the duo decided to start selling at flea markets. The Sweet Threads brand gained exposure and a social media following, which led to demand for a brick-and-mortar store. Nguyen decided to go in another direction, so Garcia and her husband, Paul Romey, opened the physical store together. Though Nguyen is no longer involved, the gals are still pals. The new Sweet Threads store opened on July 6 at 3301 E. 4th St. “By having this space, now we can build our clientele even more,” Garcia said. The boutique sells new and vintage items for children, including books, clothing, shoes, hats, toys and gift items. The store décor is reminiscent of a child’s room, boasting pastel colors and custom-made clothing racks. “When I was initially designing it, I was thinking of a combination of a child’s playroom and a sweet shop,” Garcia said. Sweet Threads is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Closed Sunday and Monday. For more information about Sweet Threads, call 562/439-7933 or visit www.shopsweetthreads.com.
