Long Beach health officials are asking businesses to self-certify that they are following physical distancing health protocols for their customers and staff.
As the city and state allow for more businesses to reopen, Long Beach officials are trying to make sure the businesses comply with new protocols to ensure coronavirus is not easily spread. This week, officials announced gyms, day camps, swimming pools and other businesses would be allowed to reopen.
Businesses that reopen are already required to post their physical distancing protocol for the public to see, but now they can use an online form called SafeBiz to be guided through a checklist of safety measures required by the city’s health order. These include measures for increased sanitation, physical distancing, keeping crowds from gathering and protecting employee health. A business has to be able to explain why any health measures they don’t implement don’t apply to them.
Once they answer the questions appropriately, the website will generate a certificate for the business to print and post with a posting of their physical distancing protocols. The self-certification entries will be “periodically” reviewed by code enforcement staff who will also conduct spot checks of businesses.
Residents can report violations and non-compliant businesses by calling 562-570-2633 or emailing CETaskForce@LongBeach.gov.
