Arts Council for Long Beach Executive Director Victoria Bryan announced last week that she plans to step down from her position once a replacement has been found.

In her two and a half years as executive director, she has led the Arts Council through a time of transition following the adoption of a new strategic plan focused on supporting the arts community through marketing, collaboration and dialogue.

“I would like to say thank you to everybody I have had the opportunity to work with and learn from in my time as executive director,” Bryan told the Business Journal. “It has been so exciting and I just feel so fortunate to have had the chance to meet people, connect with people, work with people and get to know more about what makes our city work.”

In her time with the Arts Council, Bryan said she is most proud of the council’s increased emphasis on accomplishing the goals of its new strategic plan, and the recent addition of nine new members to the council’s board of directors. “I just feel that with these new additions, plus the fantastic boardmembers that we had already, we are so well networked into our communities,” she said.

Bryan said that she hopes the Arts Council continues to grow its partnerships with the city, business community, local educational institutions and other entities.

“I am very excited about going back to some things I have truly missed because my time has been, quite rightly, dedicated to the Arts Council,” Bryan said. “I look forward to the opportunity to go back to more teaching and my own art, which is photography.”

The Arts Council is accepting applications for the position of executive director until December 15. More information is available at www.artslb.org/about.
