Mayor Seeks Applicants For City Commissions
Mayor Robert Garcia is seeking to fill more than 20 open positions on city commissions. He is especially interested in appointing more women to key vacancies, according to a statement from his office. Currently about 55% of all city commissioners are men and 45% are women. Question On Citizenship Status To Appear On 2020 Census
The United States Department of Commerce announced today that it is reinstating a question about citizenship status for the 2020 census at the request of the U.S. Department of Justice. The question will be the same one asked on the yearly American Community Survey (ACS). Political observers have noted that including the question could discourage undocumented immigrants from responding, and that states with a significant decrease in responses could lose house seats or federal funding.
Impact Report For Shell Marine Oil Terminal Project Released For Public Comment
The Port of Los Angeles released a draft environmental impact report (EIR) today for a marine oil terminal improvement project by Shell Oil Company in Wilmington. Located at Berths 167-169, the project would bring buildings into compliance with engineering and maintenance standards. The proposal also includes pipeline improvements and equipment upgrades. The draft EIR’s 45-day public comment period ends May 10. Aside from submitting written comments, the public may give comments during a meeting on Wednesday, April 11, 6 p.m., at the Port of Los Angeles Administration Building, 425 S. Palos Verdes St., San Pedro.
Free Seminar On Improving Small Business Operations
The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration is hosting a free small business seminar on Wednesday, April 4, 8:30 a.m., at Long Beach City College, 4901 E. Carson St., Building T-1200. Seminar topics include avoiding sales and use tax problems, determining if workers are employees or independent contractors, improving record keeping and types of ownership. Click here to RSVP.

The Port of Long Beach is hosting a community forum on April 4 for the public to learn about and give input on future development at the Port of Long Beach.
