American Personal Income, Spending Increased In December

Personal income in the United States increased by 0.4% to $58.7 billion in December compared to the month prior, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis announced today. Personal consumption expenditures correspondingly increased by the same percentage to $52.4 billion. Expenditures on services increased by $23.2 billion, and expenditures on goods increased by $11.1 billion. Disposable personal income increased by 0.3%.

 

Business Federation To Launch Anti-Poverty Initiative

Tomorrow, January 30, the Los Angeles County Business Federation (BizFed) will address “crisis-level poverty rates in L.A. County” and announce an initiative to lift one million residents out of poverty. More than 50 elected officials from the L.A. County Board of Supervisors, L.A. Nearly Two-Thirds Of California Children Born Into Low-Income Households

The Oakland-based nonprofit Children Now released its California Children’s Report Card for 2018. Results show that almost two-thirds of babies in the state are born into low-income households. The report graded the state on its services for children and young adults in 25 categories, including education, health and child welfare. It gave California a “D” in providing support for babies. The only “A” grade the state received was for health insurance. Read the report here.

 

State Of Long Beach City College

Long Beach City College Superintendent-President Reagan Romali is presenting the annual State of the College address this Friday, February 2. The event, which is free and open to the public, will include updates on construction, economic development programs, goals for 2018 and more. Catalina Island To Debut Three Battery-Electric Tour Buses

Three battery-electric, zero-emission buses manufactured by BYD Coach and Bus will soon transport tourists around Catalina Island. The 23-foot buses have a 125-mile range and are equipped to climb the island’s hills. BYD is also the supplier of Long Beach transit’s battery-electric zero-emission buses.
