Rent Control Expansion Bill Voted Down In Committee

Earlier today, the California State Assembly Committee on Housing and Community Development voted down Assembly Bill 1506, which would have repealed the Costa-Hawkins Rental Housing Act and allowed for more widespread rent control. If a request for reconsideration is not made by the bill’s author within 15 legislative days, the bill dies. Click here to view the bill.

 

How Much More Will Cities and Counties Pay CalPERS?

The California Policy Center, an educational nonprofit focused on public policy, has compiled a list of 20 California cities expected to be hit the hardest by pension cost increases. The cities’ current payments to CalPERS are compared to payments expected to be made in 2024 to 2025. Millbrae, a city in the San Francisco area, is expected to have the highest total pension payments of any California city by 2024.

 

State Treasurer Unrolls Business Incentives Program

Today, California State Treasurer John Chiang introduced the California Business Incentives Gateway, an online resource connecting business owners and entrepreneurs with resources to help them grow, including employee training, assistance with permitting and sales tax exclusions.
