Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach and UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital have announced a new partnership to broaden pediatric health care services in Southern California. UCLA Mattel is also joining Miller Children’s existing partnership with UC Irvine Health to expand their pediatric and medical residency programs.

According to a joint statement, UCLA Mattel and Miller Children’s plan to create additional outpatient facilities to grow the network of pediatricians and pediatric specialists in Southern California communities.

The hospitals, in partnership with UC Irvine Health, are going to expand residency rotations for pediatric medical and surgical specialties, and plan to create medical and surgical fellowship training programs.

The statement from the health care institutions noted that they will build upon each other’s expertise in specialty and acute services to expand upon clinical and research programs.

“This is another exciting example of how MemorialCare is committed to transforming health care and ensuring the highest level of clinical excellence,” MemorialCare Health System President and CEO Dr. Barry Arbuckle said in a statement to the Business Journal. Miller Children’s is a part of MemorialCare Health System. “We are pleased to collaborate with UCLA Health to advance care of children and families, expand outpatient offerings and ensure every child has access to the best care available.”

“We are extremely pleased at the opportunity to work with Miller Children’s leadership, physicians and staff to expand access to care to more children throughout Southern California,” Johnese Spisso, president of UCLA Health and CEO of UCLA Hospital System, stated in the joint announcement. “This pediatric collaboration will enhance our ability to deliver the right care at the right time for all patients.”
