Long Beach-area residents and visitors in need of a rental car can have one delivered directly to them beginning Friday, when San Francisco-based Kyte expands into the city and surrounding areas, the company announced Tuesday.

Founded in 2019, Kyte allows people to request a rental car via an app or the company website, which is then delivered to their doorstep by drivers called “Kyte Surfers.” Customers can drive the car for as little as a day or for months before scheduling a pickup at a location of their choosing.

The service lets people bypass “the inconveniences of long in-person lines and paperwork associated with traditional car rental services, the inconsistencies of peer-to-peer car sharing services and the inflexibility and long commitments of traditional car leases,” the company stated in its announcement.

Residents of Signal Hill, San Pedro and Wilmington also will have access to Kyte services, according to the announcement. The Long Beach-area services are an expansion of Kyte’s Southern California footprint, having debuted in Los Angeles in summer 2020.

Friday also marks the beginning of Kyte services in Miami.

The two market expansions come a month after Kyte raised $30 million in a Series A funding round, the company stated.

Kyte already operates in Boston, Chicago, New York City, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C.

“Today’s expansion to Long Beach and Miami is part of our aggressive growth strategy for 2021,” COO Chandra Morando said in a statement. “As we approach the busy holiday travel season, these cities are fantastic places to expand our network to help people get easier access to cars when they need them.”

The company is offering first-time Long Beach customers a 15% discount, valid through Nov. 31, with the promo code “LONGBEACH15.”
