Born March 15, 1987, the Long Beach Business Journal is approaching its 30th year as an independent voice for business and a watchdog on issues impacting the community.

As 2016 draws to a close, we want to take a moment to thank the businesses and individuals who have, and continue to, support our efforts to deliver important, timely and accurate news and information. We are especially grateful to those who have chosen to spend part of their valuable marketing dollars with us. We recognize that many of you support us in order to keep the “voice of business” alive and to ensure someone is keeping an eye on city hall actions and how our elected officials spend your money. We appreciate the confidence you have placed in us.

We have a few visual and editorial changes planned for 2017. While we have provided considerable space in supporting the small-business community, we will be doing even more with our every-issue Small Business Showcase. A minimum of six small businesses will be profiled in each of our 25 editions. Additionally, we are launching Millennial Pulse – articles about a generation’s priorities, attitudes, engagements, concerns, responsibilities, workplace environments and more. Lastly, we are planning a stronger focus on local residential and commercial real estate and development – which has attracted interest from throughout the country. Long Beach is a hot market.

We expect 2017 to be a year of transition nationally, as many are anxious about a new administration; a year of choices for California, as state officials grapple with issues such as transportation, pensions, immigration, education and more; and a year full of opportunities locally since Long Beach is well positioned to take advantage of its location and amenities to attract more businesses and create more jobs.

Our pledge is to continue to provide content that informs, educates and challenges you to be more engaged in your community. As Benjamin Franklin said, “An investment in knowledge is the best interest.”
