2017 Grand Prix Economic Impact Report Released
The Grand Prix Association of Long Beach today released the results of a Beacon Economics report on the economic impact of the 2017 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. The report showed that the race generated $63.4 million in economic output, $32.4 million of which was concentrated in Long Beach. The event also supported the equivalent of 606 year-round jobs, with 351 in Long Beach. The Grand Prix generated $700,000 in tax revenue for the city.
Dow Closes 572 Points Down, Trump Responds
In the midst of a looming trade war between the United States and China, the stock market took a dive with the Dow Jones falling 572 points today. Both countries have proposed billions of dollars in tariffs against the other, though negotiations are still underway to mitigate the situation. “We may take a hit and you know what, ultimately we’re going to be much stronger for it,” President Trump said during an interview with WABC’s “Bernie & Sid” show today.
Long Beach Financial Firm Named A “Best Place To Work”
Long Beach-based Halbert Hargrove, a fiduciary investment management and wealth advisory firm, has been recognized as a “Best Place to Work” for financial advisers by InvestmentNews. The 50 recipients of the inaugural award were “honored for [their] outstanding devotion to employees and company growth.” Firms were evaluated on various aspects such as company culture, benefits and career progression opportunities. The firm also announced it is opening an additional office in Houston, Texas.
Panel Discussion On Alamitos Bay Waterfront Vision
The Long Beach Commercial Real Estate Council is hosting a panel discussion on the vision for the Alamitos Bay waterfront on Friday, April 13. Third District Councilmember Suzie Price is giving the panel kickoff address and Sergio Ramirez, deputy director of the Long Beach Economic Development Department, is serving as moderator. Panel members include: Christopher Koontz, advance planning officer for the City of Long Beach; Scott Choppin, founder & CEO of The Urban Pacific Group of Companies; Whit Latimer, president of Bancap Commercial Real Estate Services; and Steve Shaul, senior director of development for CenterCal Properties. The event is 7:30-9 a.m. at The Grand, 4101 E. Willow St.
Free Shuttle Service Available Downtown
The City of Long Beach is launching a free shuttle service in the downtown area provided by The Free Ride. The service operates only within a designated zone bounded by 5th Street to the north, Alamitos Avenue to the east, Shoreline Drive to the south and the 710 Freeway to the west. The gas-free electric vehicles run Sunday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Rides can be requested via an application available to download here. The two-month pilot program is managed by the Long Beach Public Works Department and paid for with $100,000 in Proposition A funding.
Summer Watering Schedule Allows An Additional Watering Day
The City of Long Beach’s summer watering schedule went to effect April 1. An additional outdoor watering day is now permitted until September 31, bringing the total to three days per week. Watering is allowed Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, before 9 a.m. and after 4 p.m.
