City Council’s I-710 Oversight Committee To Meet January 30

The Long Beach City Council’s I-710 Oversight Committee is meeting at 3 p.m. on January 30 at city council chambers to receive an update and select the locally preferred alternative for the project. The committee, which is chaired by Councilman Roberto Uranga and includes Councilmen Rex Richardson and Al Austin, will also receive an update on the Shoemaker Bridge Project.

 

Business Federation ‘Troubled’ By Gov. Brown’s State of The State

John Kabateck, the California state director of the National Federation of Independent Business, expressed displeasure with the omission of small businesses from Governor Brown’s State of the State address. Kabateck said, “With California being ranked the worst state in which to do business more than 10 years in a row, home to the nation’s highest income tax, sales tax, gas tax, and one of the most hostile legal climates, NFIB/CA was troubled to hear more about high-speed rail and the Governor’s commitment to do ‘everything in his power’ to protect the recent gas tax increase, while failing to mention small business even once in his speech.”

 

CalChamber Opposes Two Proposed Assembly Bills

Today, the California Chamber of Commerce requested a call to action against California Assembly Bills 889 and 319. According to the chamber, AB 889 would force businesses to disclose trade secrets during civil litigation, while AB 319 increases the cost of beverages via “impractical” beverage container requirements.

 

U.S. 2017 Gross Domestic Product Growth Estimates Released

The United States Bureau of Economic Analysis issued a release today stating the real gross domestic product (GDP) increased at an annual rate of 2.6% in the fourth quarter of 2017, based on early estimates. Click here for details.
