City Releases Newly Revised Land Use Element Maps
The City of Long Beach released revised Land Use Element maps for community review today. The maps include revisions to Districts 2, 4, 5 and 6, totaling a density reduction of 98 acres from maps released in November. Long Beach Still In Running For Amazon HQ2 As Part Of L.A. Bid
Los Angeles County’s bid for Amazon’s second headquarters, Amazon HQ2, is still in the running – and it includes Long Beach. This morning, Amazon announced 20 finalists, which also included Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, Toronto and other major cities across the nation. If Amazon chooses the L.A. bid, Boeing’s former C-17 Globemaster III manufacturing site and the One World Trade Center tower could become part of the new headquarters. Amazon has projected $5 billion in investments and 50,000 new jobs for the winning community, plus tens of billions of dollars in additional investments in the surrounding region.

Vice-Mayor Rex Richardson is giving an address on the state of the 9th District on Saturday, January 20 at 10 a.m. in Houghton Park, 6301 Myrtle Ave. He plans to update attendees on past accomplishments and provide an outlook for the upcoming year.
Sign Up For Health Insurance By January 31 Or Face Tax Penalty
Californians must sign up for health insurance by January 31 or be subject to a tax penalty of at least $695 per adult, according to the California Association of Health Underwriters. Recently passed tax reform eliminates this penalty, which was put in place by the Affordable Care Act, but not until 2019.
California Apartment Association Names New Local Leadership
The California Apartment Association has named Frederick Sutton as its vice president of public affairs for Long Beach and 20 surrounding and nearby cities. Sutton previously served as director of government affairs for the Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles. In a statement, Sutton said he looks forward to continuing to advocate for housing providers and good housing policy.
LBCC Announces New Deans And Executive Leaders
Today, Long Beach City College (LBCC) Superintendent-President Reagan Romali announced four management appointments, including Gene Carbonaro as dean of career and technical education, Joshua Castellanos as executive director of public affairs and marketing, Corey Rodgers as executive dean of enrollment services and Heather Van Volkinburg as dean of institutional effectiveness.
