More Than 980,000 Ballots Outstanding In Los Angeles County
There are an estimated 984,000 outstanding ballots remaining to be processed in Los Angeles County, according to the registrar-recorder/county clerk. These include provisional and vote by mail ballots, as well as those received through conditional voter registration. The clerk is accepting vote by mail ballots postmarked on or before election day until tomorrow, November 9. The first count of these ballots occurs tomorrow and will continue to next week until all outstanding ballots are accounted for.
Boeing Puts C-17 Site Up For Sale
The Boeing Company on Monday listed its former C-17 Globemaster III manufacturing site for sale. Adjacent to Long Beach Airport, the property is approximately 90 acres, or more than 3.92 million square feet. The listing is being handled by commercial real estate brokerage firm Newmark Knight Frank. Long Beach Development Services (LBDS) is in the process of creating a land-use masterplan along Cherry Avenue between Spring and Carson streets, including the C-17 site, and along portions of Spring Street. Based on community feedback, the C-17 site has been identified as a location for a business park. Keesal, Young & Logan Named A Top Boutique Law Firm In California
“The Daily Journal” has named Long Beach-based law firm Keesal, Young & Logan (KYL) as one of the top boutique law firms in California for 2018. Founded in Long Beach in 1970, KYL has grown to encompass multiple offices along the West Coast and one in Hong Kong. KYL handles legal matters in a range of fields, including employment, corporate, maritime and privacy. In a press release, “The Daily Journal” noted that KYL has “enduring relationships with many household name companies,” including Wells Fargo, Morgan Stanley, J.P. Morgan, Black Rock, Inc. and others. The firm also represents many businesses located in Long Beach. KYL staff serve on the boards of and contribute to numerous local charities, including the Aquarium of the Pacific, Museum of Latin American Art and NAACP Long Beach.
Veteran Entrepreneurs And Small Business Owners
Entrepreneurship among veterans is on the decline, according to a report released today by the Small Business Administration and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. From 1998 to 2018, the rate of self-employment among veterans decreased from 16% to 11%. Business performance among veteran-owned enterprises is also declining. Veteran-owned firms that retain one to four employees have 16% lower sales on average than nonveteran-owned businesses of the same size. The vast majority of veteran-owned businesses are of this size, according to the report. However, veteran-owned businesses with 10 or more employees are out-earning non-veteran owned firms. According to the study, veteran entrepreneurs are more likely to experience “financing shortfalls,” with lower approval rates from lenders. Click here for the full report.
Cal State Long Beach Launches Crowdsourcing Campaign
California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) is launching a campaign to crowdsource ideas for the future of the university, beginning November 14 at 8 a.m. and ending on November 15 at 11:59 p.m. “Imagine BEACH 2030” gives CSULB students, faculty, staff and alumni, as well as opinion leaders and community members, the opportunity to share their ideas for how they envision the campus’s future. The crowdsourcing event is the start of a two-year planning process for CSULB to develop a new strategic plan, “BEACH 2030,” in partnership with Institute for the Future, a strategic advisory and research organization.
