The Long Beach City Council next week will decide whether to purchase a local hotel to be used for transitional housing as part of the state’s Project Homekey.

The Best Western of Long Beach, located at 1725 Long Beach Blvd. would offer 100 units to be used for supportive and transitional housing.

This planned purchase comes in addition to two properties the county is planning to buy for the same purpose in Long Beach, the Holiday Inn at 1133 Atlantic Ave. and the Motel 6 at 5665 E. Seventh St., offering 135 and 43 rooms, respectively.

It’s unclear how many rooms will be available for accommodations once the properties have been remodeled to include service areas and administrative offices.

The City Council meets at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17. Watch the meeting here.
