Long Beach residents have an interesting choice this Saturday, September 10, at 10 a.m.: attend the opening of the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library in North Long Beach or the opening of the Donald Trump campaign office in Cambodia Town. Both events are free and open to the public. And guess which one features Mariachi music and dancing?

The 24,655-square-foot library, with three community rooms, is located at 5870 Atlantic Ave. and, according to a city press release, includes “cutting-edge technology such as a makerspace, 3D printing, Wi-Fi, self-checkout kiosks and an automated book return and sorting system.” The event features family-friendly activities including performers, a book reading for children, drop-in project station for teens and much more. Vice Mayor/9th District Councilmember Rex Richardson referred to the event as “a defining moment in Long Beach history” and “as an inspiration for generations to come.”

The Trump campaign office serves as the candidate’s Los Angeles County headquarters, located at 2338 E. Anaheim St. in Cambodia Town. The event includes food, Mariachi music, dancing, and free Trump 2016 cake (wonder what a Trump cake tastes like?). At noon, speakers representing Latinas For Trump, Latinos For Trump, the former Cambodian minister of information and others will address the crowd. The event concludes at 2 p.m.

Our sources tell us that neither the First Lady nor Donald Trump will be attending Saturday’s events.

Later in the day, at 4:30 p.m., another free, family-friendly event is scheduled with the opening of the southern portion of the Greenbelt Project on the former Pacific Electric Right of Way. Festivities take place between 7th and 8th streets at Roswell Avenue. The band Dad Company performs.
