Mayor Robert Garcia has raised $241,000 since he announced his reelection campaign in mid-April. According to campaign staff, that is the most money ever raised in a June reporting period for mayor or any municipal candidate in the history of the city. The campaign reports for all candidates must be public and online after July 31.

“I wake up everyday proud to lead our city and ready to get to work,” Mayor Garcia said in a prepared statement. “I’m so grateful to all our supporters who are powering our campaign.” Garcia, who is seeking his second four-year term, is the youngest mayor of any big city in America, according to the statement. To date, he is running unopposed.

Earlier this month, Garcia received the endorsements of former mayors Beverly O’Neill and Bob Foster, as well as those from the Long Beach Police Officers Association, Firefighters Association and Equality California. Additionally, he has the backing of the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee, which in 2014 opposed him.

The Business Journal will conduct its annual interview with Mayor Garcia next month.  Anyone with a question for the mayor can e-mail it anonymously to info@lbbj.com.
