SpaceX Nixes Plans To Build Mars Spacecraft At Port Of Los Angeles
SpaceX has backed out of plans to build its Starship prototype, a spacecraft designed for Mars travel, at the Port of Los Angeles (POLA). Last April, the Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners approved a permit for a SpaceX manufacturing facility on Terminal Island. The firm now plans to manufacture the vehicle at its site in South Texas in order “to streamline operations,” according to an official company statement issued yesterday. However, SpaceX plans to continue recovery operations for its Falcon rockets and Dragon spacecraft at POLA. In an official statement, POLA staff expressed gratitude for this continued partnership.
California Homes Sales On Downward Trend
In December of last year, existing single-family home sales totaled 372,260 – down 2.4% from November and 11.6% from December 2017 – making it the eighth straight month of declining sales, the California Association of Realtors (CAR) announced today. The statewide median home price in December was $557,600, which was a 0.5% decrease from November and a 1.5% increase from December 2017. Overall, 2018 sales decreased 5.2% from 2017, the first annual decline in four years, according to CAR.
Long Beach City College Executive Sheneui Weber
Selected For California Community Colleges Position
Sheneui Weber, who currently serves as chief operating officer for advancement and economic development for Long Beach City College (LBCC), has been named the new vice chancellor for workforce and economic development for the California Community Colleges (CCC) chancellor’s office. Weber’s first day at CCC is February 4, according to an LBCC spokesperson. Weber will oversee the Strong Workforce initiative, “career technical education program designed to boost social mobility and provide regional economies with skilled workers,” according to a statement from CCC. While at LBCC, Weber launched the Innovation Fund SoCal in partnership with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, the Goldman Sachs 10,000 small businesses program, an entrepreneur in residence program and initiatives. Weber will be reunited with her former boss, Eloy Ortiz Oakley, who is CCC chancellor.
