More than 800 real estate and business professionals along with city staff and elected off icials attended the June 6 “Building A Better Long Beach” event, a presentation on development by Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia, pictured above. The event at The Beverly O’Neill Theater at the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center was hosted by the Long Beach Business Journal.

Assistant Editor Samantha Mehlinger in- troduced the event, in which Garcia out- lined more than three dozen real estate developments planned and underway throughout the City of Long Beach, includ- ing more than 5,000 residential units.

The morning’s big announcement came when Garcia was joined onstage by Tony Shooshani, owner’s representative of The Streets (formerly City Place), and Jane Close Conoley, president of California State University, Long Beach, to announce a conceptual future project in the heart of Downtown Long Beach that would house CSULB students, the University Art Mu- seum and classrooms.
