(4:18 PST) Jeannine Pearce added to her lead in the Long Beach 2nd District City Council race after more ballots were counted today by the L.A. County Registrar’s office. As of last Friday, Pearce held a 225-vote lead over her rival, Eric Gray. Now the lead is 292 votes after another 426 ballots were counted
Currently, Pearce has 5,391 votes and Eric Gray has 5,099 votes.
While ballot counting continues next week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday (as many as 1,000 ballots may remain for the 2nd District race), it appears unlikely that Gray can reverse the trend. Pearce has slowly added to her lead in each of the last four ballot counts. A final count is expected on Friday, July 1.
Evidently someone at Long Beach City Hall felt confident enough Pearce is the victor, they gave her a “Long Beach City Council Briefing Binder” that she promoted earlier today on her Facebook page.
In other election news, the Long Beach Unified School District Board of Education has voted to place a $1.5 billion “school repair and safety” bond measure on the November 8 ballot. More on this in the next edition of the Business Journal.
